Making changes to your web pages with File Manager

cPanel’s built-in File Manager makes management of your files quick and easy. File Manager is located in the Files portion of your cPanel interface.

To begin, click on File Manager and choose the correct starting directory. You will most likely want to click on Web Root (www/public_html) as this will start you in the portion of your site that serves live web content.

Web files will appear in the righthand frame of the screen. You can navigate to other directories using the directory list in the lefthand frame of the screen.

Select a file by checking the checkbox next to the filename. You will then have three way to edit the file.

Clicking on Editor will open the file as a plain text document. If you can read code, and just need to get into the file and make a quick change, this is the simplest way.

Clicking on Code Editor will open the file in a code view, but the screen will color-code the scripts, tags, and programming code appearing in the document. If you have a large or complicated file, Code Editor can make navigation of the file easier thanks to the color-coded display.

Clicking on HTML Editor will open the file in a WYSIWYG (page layout) program, allowing you to view the page as it appears in a web browser. The HTML Editor lets you alter pages directly on your web site and without the use of a separate layout program on your computer.

Please note: Changes made to any live files on your web site will be immediately visible to web site visitors. For this reason, we recommend that you copy a file to a backup folder, or rename it, before editing the original. This way, if you need to revert to a previous version, you will have an original copy on standby.
